Using FDX Files
.fdx is the file format of Final Draft. EpicDraft imports and exports it, so you can trade drafts with collaborators who write in Final Draft.
Importing — open a .fdx file like any other.
Exporting — File ▸ Save Script As…, then choose Final Draft. The picker labels FDX export Experimental: it works well for ordinary screenplay pages, but open the result in Final Draft to check it before a deadline.
What survives a round trip
- Scene headings, dialogue, dual dialogue, transitions, and scene numbers.
- Bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough marks.
- On import, Final Draft's AllCaps style is mapped to real capitals and smart quotes are normalized.
What doesn't
- Final Draft's paragraph layout attributes — spacing, leading, and indents — are not written.
- Revision tracking is not written. Cast lists are exported as Final Draft's own Cast List element and imported from it.
- Shot, lyric, and section elements don't round-trip cleanly.
